“Rare as is true love, true friendship is rarer.” — Jean de La Fontaine

I believe in “open relationships.” I’m not someone who believes in sexual exclusivity. Yet, I have been exclusive and had monogamous relationships on rare occasions, but it is not my cup of tea. I’ve been upfront about this for the past fifteen years or so. My close friends know this of me, and now you do.

Even if it’s my favorite dessert, I’m not someone who can commit to eating the same dessert for the rest of my life. I’m sorry, but it’s the perfect metaphor.

Still, this tale does not attempt to explain why I’ve made this decision in life; I will leave that for another time.

This story is about how I lost one of my closest friends due to these ideas. Or so I like to think.
