I'm even writing in my dreams.
“Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.” — Benjamin Franklin
I never thought I would be hooked like this to writing. But it’s true; I’m addicted to it. Since I was a little kid, I have always enjoyed reading, and since the Internet came around, I’m a compulsive reader of the content. I read so many different types of it- from news articles to blog posts or even infographics- but there is one thing in common with all these pieces: they have something interesting about them, which makes me want to continue reading.
On busy days, I have more time than others. Therefore I am always reading on these hectic days. Of course, with the Internet providing an abundance of material to read, this is extremely easy. I now enjoy YouTube and podcasts as well! I'm late to the game; however, it is what it is.
In the past year, I've been writing more often, and it's something that is a part of my daily routine now (I love patterns!). It started with some creative stories, which eventually evolved into blogging. On top of these blog posts, tons of other Medium articles have influenced my interest in writing. Trust me when I say you won't regret reading these fantastic pieces by so many talented writers from all over the world.
My writing ritual.
In my dreams, I have been writing! It is crazy that I'm even drawing inspiration from how much content I read. The idea started with me using Post-Its to write down any ideas or thoughts of things I wanted to create on my blog so it would be easier for me to remember these topics when the time came around.
I am sure other people do this; it's more of a ritual for myself where after reading some fantastic piece, I will take out one of those Post-Its (the real ones!) and write it down to remind myself later on what made that piece stand out from all others. This way, whenever I'm ready to start working on that particular topic again, it will be fresh in my mind, and the creation process goes much faster. Do you have a writing ritual?
I'm also doing this with videos on YouTube and podcasts! This way, if I'm having a busy day, there is no need for me to spend hours watching something that might not interest me as much; all I have to do is take out one of those Post-Its (which I stick onto my desk) and read what made that video or podcast stand out from others. Afterward, when it's time for work again, perfect timing because now everything related to creating content comes back into focus!
Writing has been a part of human history since we started drawing our thoughts down by writing them down. With so many different types of content being written, it's no wonder why we love to read and write. Even in my dreams, where I have been writing these past few nights!
When I decided to start publishing on Medium (Sep 24th, 2021), my objective was to write one blog post each week. Now that I'm writing an article every day, I'm interested in seeing whether or not I can maintain this for at least a month. On some days, I've found myself completing two articles. Not only is this fun, but I love the idea of making consistent progress on something that means a lot to me. I apologize because I'm well aware that the amount may not match the quality I want to provide. After all, practice is what helps you grow.
Every person has their way of writing. Some people use a pen and paper as a source to write with, while others may use a digital device such as a laptop or tablet. Writing is a way of communicating thoughts and ideas to other people. Unless one has been taught how to read and write, it can be challenging to express themselves in this way.
The evolution of writing.
The function of writing has evolved over the centuries. At first, it was used to make pictographs and symbols on cave walls. Then, with the invention of language, people began to use characters to represent words.
In ancient times, people communicated through drawings and symbols. The first evidence of written language is from Mesopotamia around 3200 BCE. The first writing system was called cuneiform, and it used a series of characters to represent sounds. It was so successful that it remained in use for over two thousand years, a record unmatched by any other system until the invention of the alphabet in 1500 BCE.
The alphabet was revolutionary as it made reading and writing accessible to all people regardless of their native language or dialects. It has been used ever since as a way for individuals to communicate with each other across geographical boundaries.
After the invention of writing, humans developed a new form of communication and data storage. The development and adaptation to new technologies have shaped the way we write today. From quill pens to pencils, keyboards, or digital pens, our writing styles have evolved with each technological advancement.
Writing tools have evolved over the years. They are more powerful and functional. The devices that were once only seen in the world of novels are now becoming commonplace in our everyday lives. They offer many different ways to produce content that can be used for both personal and professional purposes. Equipped with these writing tools, we can improve our content production abilities while enjoying better efficiency and more creativity.
The functions of these writing tools are not limited to what is on the surface. They can also provide many options like voice-to-text, synonyms, grammar checkers, word count tracking, and spell checkers, which make it possible for any writer to get their thoughts out of their head and onto paper or a computer screen ease.
Even though writing has been around for thousands of years, it's hard not to get hooked on it each time you sit down and start typing away! With the idea that the world is constantly changing and evolving, it's incredible to think how writing has changed throughout time. For example, when Gutenberg invented his printing press in 1440 (a significant historical event), it made reading materials available for all types of people! With computers and iPads/Kindles- we can take an infinite amount of books everywhere we go!
The evolution of technology is truly fascinating because it keeps us entertained and makes our lives easier. I'm sure one day there will be some innovation which changes everything once again.
The Internet and social media have made it possible for people to share their writing with the world. With so many different ways to produce content, we can reach a wider audience while having fun at the same time! It's no wonder that millions of writers worldwide- imagine how much more creativity could be out there if everyone started sharing what they wrote?
I never even considered the possibility. But here I am, writing every day; I'm even writing in my dreams.
